An Anthill Sage The Great Valmiki Of Ramayana

Maharshi Valmiki, the author of the great Indian epic Ramayana, was a Hindu sage who lived around the beginning of the first millennium B.C. He is referred to as the 'adikavi', the original creator of the Hindu 'sloka' - a verse form in which most of the great epics such as Ramayana, Mahabharata, Puranas, and other works are composed.

How Valmiki Got His Name

He was a Brahman by birth belonging to the lineage of Bhrigu. Fate consigned him to a family of robbers which brought him up. Accidental contact with the Saptarsis - the Seven Sages and with the sage Narada changed his life. By the repetition of Ramanama or the name of Ram, he attained the supreme state of a 'maharshi' or great sage. Since a 'valmika' or an anthill had grown over his body during his long period of austerities and poised state of penance, he came to be known as Valmiki.

The Avatars

The word is used, in a technical sense, in the Hindu re!igion to denote the descent upon earth of a portion of the essence of a god, which then assumes some coarser material form, be it animal, monster, or man. Such descents are ascribed in the mythology of Hinduism to various gods, but those ascribed to Vishnu are by far the most important. They are believed to have taken place at different ages of the world, and to have consisted of different proportions of the essence of the god Vishnu. Their number is variously stated, ranging from ten to twenty-eight, finally becoming indefinitely numerous.

In Hinduism, an avatar or avatara, is the incarnation (bodily manifestation) of an Immortal Being, or of the Ultimate Supreme Being. It derives from the Sanskrit word 'avatara' which means "descent" and usually implies a deliberate descent into mortal realms for special purposes. The term is used primarily in Hinduism, for incarnations of Vishnu the Preserver, whom many Hindus worship as God. The Dasavatara (see below) are ten particular "great" incarnations of Vishnu.
Unlike Christianity, and Shaivism, Vaishnavism believes that God takes a special (including human) form whenever there is a decline of righteousness (dharma) and rise of evil. Lord Krishna, an avatar of Vishnu, according to Vaishnavism that is espoused by Ramanuja and Madhva, and God in Gaudiya Vaishnavism, said in the Gita: 'For the protection of the good, for destruction of evil, and for the establishment of righteousness, I come into being from age to age.' (Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 4, verse 8.) In any event, all Hindus believe that there is no difference between worship of Vishnu and His avatars as it all leads to Him.The word has also been used by extension by non-Hindus to refer to the incarnations of God in other religions, notably Christianity, for example Jesus.

Toothpaste and its Impact on the Environment

Going green has become a regular way of life for a lot of people, and there are some who do it without even realising they are. It can be simple things like turning off the lights when you aren’t using a room anymore, recycling plastic bottles on a regular basis or making something out of the leftovers from meals. These same folk will unplug every appliance in their home and always check for energy efficient models of appliances. They do this in an effort to conserve energy and save money on their utility bills each month; never consciously thinking they are participating in their own green lifestyle.

Did We really land on Moon?

NASA Moon landing

In the early hours of May 16, 1990, after a week spent watching old video footage of man on the Moon, a thought was turning into an obsession in the mind of Ralph Rene.

"How can the flag be fluttering?" the 47 year old American kept asking himself when there's no wind on the atmosphere free Moon? That moment was to be the beginning of an incredible Space odyssey for the self- taught engineer from New Jersey. He started investigating the Apollo Moon landings, scouring every NASA film, photo and report with a growing sense of wonder, until finally reaching an awesome conclusion: America had never put a man on the Moon.

The giant leap for mankind was fake. It is of course the conspiracy theory to end all conspiracy theories. But Rene has now put all his findings into a startling book entitled NASA Mooned America. Published by himself, it's being sold by mail order - and is a compelling read. The story lifts off in 1961 with Russia firing Yuri Gagarin into space, leaving a panicked America trailing in the space race. At an emergency meeting of Congress, President Kennedy proposed the ultimate face saver, put a man on the Moon. With an impassioned speech he secured the plan an unbelievable 40 billion dollars.

The Last Words Of Steve Jobs

The world was absolutely stunned when the co-founder of Apple, Steve Jobs, died at the age of 56.It seemed way too soon to be losing such an incredibly talented man.During his lifetime, Steve Jobs built Apple into one of the greatest tech companies in the entire world. But, like all of us, Steve Jobs eventually had to leave this earth.According to his sister, Mona Simpson, the last words of Steve Jobs were the following: "Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow."  So what did these last words of Steve Jobs mean?

Did he see something? Was he in the process of leaving his body? Did he see "the light" that so many that have gone through near death experiences talk about?  Did he see heaven? Did he see hell? Was he reflecting on what it felt like to die? Did his life flash in front of his eyes?  Unfortunately, for now at least, what Steve Jobs saw and experienced during his dying moments will remain a mystery.
