The Origins Of Everyday Thing - Belts

Belts...? Yes Belt which been around since the bronze age ( 3300 BCE - 1200 BCE) and  we don't really know who invented it.We are still using it today especially men and woman for mere fashion I believe. Some men will not go out withouth it I guess.

Like many other items of wearing apparel, the belt evolved over centuries of wear. There is no one who can claim to have "invented" it. The first instances of cords, be they animal skins or braided plant materials, is seen far back in the stone age past. Beaded jewelry worn around the neck, the waist, the wrists and the ankles pre-date clothing and show up surprisingly far back in human history Our cave dwelling ancestors braided animal skins, plaited rushes, and likely experimented with many ways of fastening these securely about the waist. Many indigenous tribes of the world still wear braided animal skins of plant materials as part of their dress. beads, animal pelts, and other decorations were hung from theses cords. Loin clothes would have evolved from these ornaments. The modern strip belt shows up in the bronze age, having evolved from braided belts.

Buckled belts show up very early in many civilizations. Egyptians, Sumerians, and other early civilizations all had belts with buckles, some were more ornate than others, high ranking leaders such as military leaders, kings and queens, and the very rich had ornately decorated and jewelled belts and buckles. The buckled belt has been worn by men and women constantly for thousands of years right up to modern times, so there really isn't an inventor.
